This shirt was designed by Caroline Hurd for Cassava and Rye for local nonprofit Community Spring and their recent campaign, Links Not Locks.<\/p>
<\/p>
Links Not Locks is about folks in crisis being met with the care of community, mental health services, and deserved support rather than stigma and punitive measures. This artwork aims to represent this mission by taking inspiration from the Underground Railroad Quilts as a community effort to lead folks to freedom; quilts as a physical representation of community, as many pieces coming together to form a functional unit bigger than their individual selves; and blankets in general as a source of comfort, security, coziness, and caring in an often-cold world.\u00a0<\/p>
<\/p>
Profits from purchasing this shirt will go to Community Spring and directly support their proposal for an alternative first responder program, with teams of mental health clinicians and medics that can be dispatched via 911, 988, and a non-emergency line for low-risk, non-emergency calls.\u00a0This program would divert people from jail and connect them to the support they need to thrive. While the profits from this fundraiser go to a program based in Gainesville, Florida, it takes inspiration from similar existing programs across the country and can provide a framework for others to grow.<\/p>
